The Story Behind a Rusty Bookend

Every now and again, the urge to craft smacks me in the face and says "Hi, how are ya". I'm pretty sure this need to be creative is one of the reasons I love to write stories. Writing is being crafty but with your mind, not your hands. I noticed I had one rusty bookend collecting dust and my local Dollar General had an entire aisle of cute little gnomes. I thought to myself, instead of throwing it away (the bookend), why don't I repurpose it? Thus, the need to create my very own re-purposed gnome-themed bookends was hatched. It was a plan, not a baby, so "hatched" not born... I digress. I already had supplies on hand (glue gun, glue sticks, moss from a Christmas ornament gone terribly wrong-long story, and a metal bookend), so all I needed was the cute little gnomes I encountered at the Dollar General and something to use as the second bookend to the first I was going to repurpose.  As luck is a gnome, I found decent sized gnomish houses to choose from (hello, little acorn house), and voilà, I had my second bookend.

The process was easy and took about an hour. I waffled back and forth about how much I wanted to add but decided simpler is better. To be honest, I might add a little woodland critter later on. Maybe. If I can find a bunny. Then, yeah, I will. For now, it's one of my favorite projects, and I'm quite proud of it. I have to admit, I sleuthed around on Pinterest and saw a lot of cute gnome themed bookends. While they looked fantastic, they also looked too expensive to make. I'll stick with my budget-friendly and terribly cute Dollar Store inspired gnome bookends, because, well, in the end I have to be true to myself.

What I used: Glue gun Glue sticks Moss (found at most craft stores in the fake flower section, found mine at Dollar Tree fake flower section) Battered metal bookend Gnome house from the Dollar General Gnome figurine from the Dollar General Miniature stone garden walls from the Dollar General same section as the gnomes.
