How can I have a blog without sharing one of the things I love most? Sweet tea! Every cup filled with memories of my grandmother who brewed me my first cup back when I was five years old. Every morning, corn bread muffins, sometimes biscuits, but always tea. She even made the dog and cat breakfast, oatmeal. Don't ask...
Recipe: 3 tea bags, family size (I use Lipton)
1/2 cup granulated sugar (more or less, it depends on how sweet you like it)
water
saucepan
ice
Baking soda (optional, and a mere pinch)
Directions: Bring the water to a rolling boil, place the tea bags in the water and turn off heat. Cover and let the tea bags steep for, at least, five minutes. The longer you let it steep the stronger and more bitter it will become. I don't make a simple syrup, I take my sugar and put it in the water while it's hot (sugar will dissolve in the hot water). Stir. Remove tea bags. Fill a jug, bottle, pitcher, or whatever you have on hand about halfway with water then add your freshly brewed tea to the water. I have heard adding the barest hint of baking soda helps with the taste, but I haven't noticed a difference.

I take it a lemon is optional?
That is the first I have ever heard of baking soda in sweet tea.
